Birmingham Community Trust Activities 2017.

Introduction

BCT is a charity registered (no. 1134696) we aim to help children of all ages living in a deprived area with inadequate facilities for play and education, and limited opportunities to go out of the area apart from school.

Since 26th October 2009 we have been running our activities by member donations, however due to recent unemployment problems we are now unable to run our activities. From our own pockets therefore, we urge your trust to award a grant to help to continue our activities

Aston is one of the deprived areas where most of the young people live. Apart from school they haven’t got any place to go, there are no youth clubs, no youth facilities in the area most of the time they have to stay at home, or if they go out , they get involved with antisocial behaviour like kicking people’s doors, throwing eggs at people’s windows, or fighting amongst themselves in the area. (According to BCT survey in 2017).

On 20th September 2017 BCT management committee ran a survey in within the Aston area about the problems and needs for this project to run. Out of 100 people an overwhelming majority of people from the Aston area agreed that the lack of opportunities and youth facilities within the area is very much a problem alongside racism, antisocial behavior, gun crimes and drugs. The communities living in this area experience social exclusion, overcrowded accommodation and high Unemployment. To tackle these problems the management committee decided to run a special three weeks summer project with those deprived young people living in the area with inadequate facilities and limited opportunities to go out of the area apart from school.
